Next time if you are going to sell something for 200k, make it 100k + 7 unided gold armors or 100k+ sigil + 2 gold armors or make the person pay you 100k up front for 7 gold armors, then make him trade you the 7 armors + 100k back for the bow. The 7 armors you carry as collateral so he doesn't worry about getting scammed.
And $200 for a purse, that buys a nice purse, try going to Google and putting in 'Hermes Birkin Bag Crocodile'. Now thats expensive

I don't know what is the deal with this original poster. I think he's lying about the whole thing, trying to pump up the value of his bow. I wouldn't be surprised if he still has the bow and is still spamming it for 200k in Lion Arch.
I spent one hour spamming the same bow for 50k. And I didn't even get one returned message.

No, Im not lying about the bow and no I do not spam thankyou. My aim wasn't to get sympathy or pity as some have claimed. Nor was I trying to argue about bow prices. Or to argue about price gouging and whatnot. I wasn't trying to find out "how lucky I was to even get 100k".
What I was trying to do was to find out if there was a way to alert the games "admin", or whoever, in order to keep tabs on ppl who have repeatedly were dishonest to other players. Someone who easily walks away with that much potential money would be have no problem doing again to another player (I saw the same character later trying to sell for 150k, and later said that he would sell it for 300k). I never lie to ppl about my bows, if they say the price is to high, I say, "you CAN find it cheaper if your'e patient enough to shop around or try to find it yourself". Often, ppl are too lazy to find themselves or shop around for it at lower price. So they pay. I find cheap bows for sale all day long, Ive never paid over 40k for anything. I am not dishonest, this fellow was, as he lied to me repeatedly begging to pay 200k.
On the other hand, thanks for the advice about the armor and rune + 100K trade. And thanks to those who attempted to help me find a way to report repeatedly dishonest ppl. Thanks for your time, I apologize if I offended anyone.
And yeah I dont like vamp 5/1 string either, but in the past week, its been hard to find one even under 80k.

Speculators just take money from those asking to have it taken from them. While it is truly idiotic to spend anything close to that much gold on anything, period, people will do it, because much as in the real world, some people prefer to throw money at a problem instead of spending a little time finding it for themselves.
|
This is precisely the problem. It's not a little bit of time one can be spending to find it for themselves. It could be weeks of playing. That's because items drops are generally completely random, and finding the one you want is very difficult. This is how the trade system started, people trading what they have for what they want, which eventually evolved into the currency system.
Some people have a lot of money, whether its from farming, lucky drops, or even playing the market. That money is useless just sitting there, but being able to turn that money into something they would find enjoyment is a good thing.

Seriously. I think this game will end up with the same trade values like Diablo II - Lord of Destruction. Probably 1000k for 1 Superior Vigor rune in 3 years. You'll see =)

We can't carry 1000k. We can only carry 100k. The rune trader cannot charge above 100k.
The most it is possible to charge an item for without the chance of being shafted is 100k+7 unid'd gold drops

No, it isn't. If it was anything it was a scam.
Exploit = taking unfair advantage of a game design flaw or bug.
Scam = tricking someone out of money.
Personally I don't think there were any scamming going on either. I think this is bullshit. A 200K bow? A "relative noob" with a 200K bow? Yeah, right!
Thargor is of course free to report this guy to Anet, but the burden of proof is on Thargor, and he will not have the evidence to support his version.

"OMGZORZ THIS DOODE SHUD ME BANND CUZ I CUDNT EXPLOIT HIM ENUFF!" look back, and listen to yourself... You're mad that you couldn't rip someone off for enough? I thought it was bad that I let a Red dye go for 100g when I was a newbie.

For some retarded reason I trusted the guy to pay the other 100k in a sec. But he ran offline after he paid half. This is obviously my fault, but that guy still needs to die. If for anything at all, because he lied to me repeatedly for an hour saying he could pay.
|
Ever notice that when people are selling stuff for more than 100k, they take items like sup vigors for the other part of the money.
I would feel sorry for you, but you are charging 200k for a bow, which is a TOTAL rip off in every way imaginable. Actually, I am glad I read this, because nothing beats when a price gouger gets screwed hard.
EDIT:
If they ever put in a report system like this, I think I am going to report you for trying to exploit newbies.

I can't stop laughing here... 200k for a crappy bow, lol... no matter what bow that is, I'd sell it for 20k MAX! What the hell do you want to do with so much money anyway? Nothing in the game is worth more than 20k... crappy inflationists! I wish beta times never ended :-( Since release there are so many morons cranking up the inflation...

I'm not surprised he ripped you off. I wouldn't agree to paying 200k for a bow like that unless I intended to scam the seller out of 100k. Hell I even doubt a plain 5/1 vampiric bow is worth 100k.

Actually, "duped" does mean deceived, outside of the MMO world. From the dictionary: dupe: one that is easily deceived or cheated : FOOL
"Duped" as used in gaming lingo is a shortcut (of course) for "duplicated", meaning that an item has been illegally replicated.
Just to set the record straight.
Peace
